H\u00e4ndelsen lever kvar i ber\u00e4ttelserna och i Orava Mattis sten p\u00e5 g\u00e5rdstunet.  <\/p><p>\u00c5r 1671 grundades Oravala s\u00e4teri av Carl Gyllenstierna, son till den m\u00e4ktige statsr\u00e5det Erik Gyllenstierna. Oravala g\u00e5rd hamnade pl\u00f6tsligt p\u00e5 den ryska sidan av gr\u00e4nsen \u2013 en dramatisk f\u00f6r\u00e4ndring som p\u00e5verkade b\u00e5de \u00e4gandef\u00f6rh\u00e5llanden och vardagsliv. <\/p><p>Under 1700-talet \u00e4gdes g\u00e5rden bland annat av inflytelserika handelsfamiljer med internationella n\u00e4tverk. F\u00f6r\u00f6delsen \u00e4r enorm &#8211; sju hus brinner ner, d\u00e4ribland det gamla karakt\u00e4rshuset.<br>Genom torparlagen frig\u00f6rs 500 hektar fr\u00e5n g\u00e5rden och efter krigsslutet 1945 splittras egendomen genom generationsskifte och \u00f6verl\u00e5telse av mark till karelarna.  <\/p><p>Idag drivs Oravala g\u00e5rd av sl\u00e4ktens femte generation \u2013 Nikolaj Hornborgs sonsons sonson.
